What do we do here?

On Litizen, we post short stories which could be written by anyone under the sun.  The only requirement is that you should have  a genuine interest in writing and this interest should reflect in your work.

You’re not expected to be a professional writer and definitely not expected to churn out a ‘publishable’ quality work.  Amateurs are what we’re looking for.  All MBAs, engineers, banking professionals, plumbers, etc. physically stuck in the real world but mentally in an alternate universe, and with a penchant of putting it down on paper, this is the platform for you.

We do realise how difficult it is to promote an individual blog, and to get people to read it and comment on it.  Let’s face it.  All writers write to be read.  And all writers want to be read to be commented on.  And when this basic purpose is not met with individual blogs, the only solution is to create a community blog.

‘Litizen’ an acronym for, please don’t laugh, ‘literary citizen’ is created to promote not any single person’s writing.  It is made with an aim to house an many writers as possible.  Possibly, such an eclectic mix will attract readers and voila, you get your eyeballs / comments.

We did mention above that the writing need not be of publishable quality (which is pretty apparent from this ‘About’ section), but if your story is predominantly written in BB/GTalk language, it might not find its way on the blog.  Having said that, no one sits to judge anyone’s work before uploading (honestly we do not have so much time and we leave that for the readers), but this blog is for serious writers, not seriously good writers (this you incidentally could be).

All work can be mailed on storyboard.writers@gmail.com or on rishabh.3101@gmail.com .  The piece will be put on the blog and is promoted through meetup.com and of course, facebook.  You’d be surprised at the number of people who’ll end up reading your work.

Litizen is in reality a virtual extension of a real group of writers (yes- that’s right, real flesh and blood, brick and mortar group).  We meet week / fortnightly and and have a group on meetup.com which is Mumbai Storyboard Writers Group.  To stay connected with us, please join us through the link provided below

Ciao

It was a nice concept. I also write, but your site can force me to be serious about writing really good. I am looking forward to contribute on short stories. Do you accept stories in any other language like Hindi ? I write my blogs but this will be new platform to communicate with the readers.

    Hi,
I don’t live in Mumbai so sadly cannot do the meet-ups except for if I happen to be visiting there and the timing works – however I do like to write and am currently pursuing a practice of writing at least 2-3 short stories every month (if not more) while pursuing my literary aspirations.

Can I share my stories here/submit here because while I have been getting readers, as a writer I crave feedback (good and bad) that can help me improve, especially from fellow writers – something I’m struggling to do with the limited “literary” circle I have right now.

    Cheers…

@ Asif, all you got to do is send in stories at the mail mentioned above. We will publish these stories and promote them socially. You can become part of Mumbai meet up group, mentioned above, and join our colourful discussions where we basically discuss stories and writing.
@ Spider, I know its unfortunate. You can atleast become part of this virtually by sending stories to be posted on the site. We’ll soon figure out a way to include multi geographically located people in the group as well.

i would like to know , the process through which a short story gets uploaded.
is it done by Rishabh or is there a committee?
is the criteria first come first or any other?
are there any short story themes that are preferred to others?
is there a limit on the number of stories that are put up every day/week?
within how many days would the story be uploaded?

      Hi Piyush,

We are undergoing an overhaul, and hence are not uploading anything on the site as of now. However, under the new format, you will be able to create your profile and upload the stories directly, so no trying your patience.

The beta version should be live soon. Thanks.

WOW!!!…thanks for the upcoming beta version…that will be,im sure, the best thing to happen to Indian literature after Tagore saab. Next year’s wanna-be Nobel laureates now have something else to worry about other than writer’s block – here we come – Litizen.com…;-)

wasn’t the beta version something i suggested long back to rishabh, it’s gonna be much easier for the writers to post, edit and re-edit their stories..
